  • Is couples therapy covered by Medicare? No, couples therapy is not a Medicare-rebatable service in Australia. Any providers offering this should be approached with caution. It’s important to entrust something as vital as your relationship to qualified professionals. 

  • Why is Couples Counselling Expensive and What is the Usual Fee Per Session?Couples counselling involves a deep, focused commitment to addressing the unique dynamics within your relationship. As such, sessions are typically longer(a double session!) to ensure you receive the attention and support needed to create lasting change.

  • Our fees range from $150 to $300 AUD per session. Catherine's rate for couples counselling is $200 per session, reflecting her expertise and experience, and is positioned within the mid-range of the market.

  • As all of our couples sessions are DOUBLE sessions, the total cost is $400 per session. This ensures ample time for meaningful exploration and progress in your relationship.

  • Does Catherine support individuals, or just couples? While Catherine specialises in couples and marriage therapy, she also supports individuals to live their best lives possible, offering personalised guidance and support as a highly experienced coach and psychotherapist.

  • Couples & Parenting Challanges : This recommended package includes 4 double sessions, with the relationship assessment focusing on either couples or on family/parenting dynamics. The 4 double sessions program aims to enhance communication and problem-solving amongst couples or parents to as improve and transform relationships--between a couple or throughout the entire family. Opting for the 4 double sessions package with the complimentary relationship assessment, offers the best value and effectiveness.

  • Is the Couples Relationship Health Assessment OR Parenting Couples Assessment, included and utlised in couple therapy sessions? These are both slightly different assessments but which both greatly assist in clarifying the entire typology of the couple's relationship OR the parenting/family dynamics assessment focuses on both the relationship and parenting issues.

  • The Couples Assessment has a focus on : 

  • Communication skills and improving dialogue

  • Conflict resolution strategies and managing disagreements

  • Understanding and meeting each other’s needs

  • Strengthening emotional connection and intimacy

  • Identifying and addressing negative relationship patterns

  • Managing expectations and improving role clarity

  • The Parenting Assessment has a focus on :

  • Loyalty conflicts and divided loyalties in children

  • Conflict resolution related to parenting

  • Can private health funds provide rebates for couples counselling? Some private health funds offer small rebates, but the discount package options available through The Edge Counselling generally offer better value than private health rebates.

  • What if I’m struggling financially? If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please reach out. We are open to discussing flexible arrangements to ensure you get the support you need.

  • How are bookings and payments handled? All bookings are made online and processed securely through Halaxy, a trusted diary system used by many GPs and specialists across Australia.

  • What is the cancellation policy? There are no cash refunds. However, credit for future sessions will be provided if you cancel with at least 48 hours’ notice, or 24 hours in advance for a medical emergency via TEXT to Catherine.

  • Can the Relationship Health Assessment be taken on its own? Yes, the test can be taken as a standalone option. Answers are private, but both partners will receive a 10-page report outlining the strengths and challenges of their relationship. Catherine automatically recieves a 25 page facililitators report so if you are struggling, and would like support after recieving your results, choose the PAYG one double couples session to make a start!

  • What’s involved in the Relationship Health Test before couples therapy? Before the first session, both partners will receive a questionnaire link via email, which takes about 30 minutes to complete. Each partner’s answers remain private, and only the couples counsellor will see the full 25-page facilitator’s report, covering key areas of growth and challenges. This process saves time and money by offering clear insights right from the start. The Couple recieve a 10 page report which doesnt show any answers but is nevertheless a profoundly insightful report for the couple. 

  • Private Health Rebates? What kind of discounts are available for couples counselling? Discounted package options include the Relationship Health Test and provide similar savings to private health rebates.

  • Does The Edge Counselling offer online or in-person sessions?
    Yes, we offer both online sessions via Zoom and in-person sessions in Perth, giving you flexible options to suit your schedule and preferences.

  • Who is Cameron Mae and what does she offer?
    Cameron Mae is our qualified Youth Coach, working with individuals aged 12 and upwards, including young adults who prefer a younger therapist. Despite her youth, Cameron is a highly knowledgeable, capable, and strong practitioner with a wealth of wisdom and experience and Bachelors Degree in Psychology and over three years experience offering psychosocial support to many neuro-divergent young folk.
