Refunds & Cancellation Policy

As a small private practice, I’m unable to offer refunds. Appointments are booked 4 to 8 weeks in advance and that time is reserved exclusively for you. If a couple separates suddenly or one partner decides not to attend, the session itself is still held and cannot be financially absorbed by the practice.

If a relationship has ended, I warmly encourage the attending partner to still use the appointment. Many clients find it deeply supportive to have space held for them during heartbreak, and the session can focus on healing, reflection, and education that supports healthier future relationships.

Cancellations require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice so the appointment can be offered to another couple on a waiting list. Without sufficient notice, the full fee applies. This policy allows the practice to run sustainably while continuing to offer high-quality care and availability to all clients.

What makes The Edge Counselling different from other couples counselling services in Perth Australia?

The Edge Counselling uses a structured, assessment-led approach rather than unstructured talk therapy. The focus of the collaboration is solution driven--strong coaching approach for results. Real skills and tools for real change. All new couples complete a Relationship Health Assessment before their first session, allowing therapy to target root causes immediately. Sessions are longer, focused, and outcome-driven, which typically reduces the number of sessions required and saves couples time and money.

Is the Relationship Health Assessment (RHA) required before the first couples counselling session?

Yes. For new couples, completing the Relationship Health Assessment (RHA) before the first session is essential. The assessment provides a clear, evidence-based overview of your relationship so sessions can focus immediately on the most important pressure points and strengths. This approach typically saves at least four sessions, significantly reducing both time and overall cost while improving outcomes.

What does the Relationship Health Assessment include? (RHA)

The assessment examines communication patterns, conflict and repair, emotional connection, intimacy, trust, values, expectations, stressors, decision-making, and areas of disconnection or rupture. Each partner’s responses remain private. Couples receive a concise 10-page summary report, while Catherine receives a detailed 25-page facilitator report to guide targeted and effective couples therapy. The RHA does NOT identify any party as "the problem." It focuses on the bonds weak areas and also its strenghts while also shedding light on personality typology eg introvert vs extrovert.

.WHY does the Relationship Health Assessment include "religious and spiritual questions?!"

Only one of the ten sections touches on spirituality or religion. Is it a religious couples support program? NO.

The Relationship Health Assessment is not a religious or Christian-focused programme.

It is a comprehensive, research-based relationship assessment that explores 10 key areas of a couple’s dynamic, including communication, conflict resolution, intimacy, friendship, values, and shared goals.

Spirituality is simply one of those ten sections.

For some couples, faith or spirituality, whether Christian, Buddhist, Islamic, Jewish, agnostic, spiritual-but-not-religious, or none at all, plays an important role in how they connect and make meaning together. For others, it holds little or no relevance.

The assessment does not promote any belief system. It simply asks how important spirituality or faith is within your relationship, if at all. This helps provide a complete picture of the bond.

If spirituality is not relevant to you or your partner, you are free to select the response options that reflect that, or move through that section quickly. The assessment is designed with flexible, multiple-choice responses so you can answer in a way that feels accurate and comfortable for you.

As a qualified couples therapist, it is important for me to understand all aspects that may influence a relationship, including values, worldviews, and personal meaning systems. The RHA is a clinical tool to support this understanding, not a religious document.

The focus is always on strengthening your relationship, not promoting ideology.

How long is a couples counselling session?

Couples counselling sessions are 90 minutes in length. Sessions are structured as two consecutive 45-minute appointments ($185 + GST per 45 minutes). This reflects the reality that couples counselling involves three people in the therapeutic process and requires additional time for safe, meaningful progress. The total fee is $400 (incl. GST) per session.

Why are couples counselling sessions longer than individual sessions?

Couples work involves managing two nervous systems, communication patterns, emotional regulation, and relational repair simultaneously. Longer sessions allow meaningful progress without rushing conversations or leaving issues unresolved, which often leads to fewer sessions overall.

Why is couples counselling considered an investment rather than an expense?

Effective couples counselling addresses root causes rather than surface issues. Using structured assessments and longer sessions often reduces the total number of sessions required, saving money over time while producing stronger, longer-lasting relationship change.

Are discounted couples counselling packages available?

Yes. The recommended 4 Double Sessions Package includes the Relationship Health Assessment and offers the best overall value. These packages typically provide better outcomes and greater savings than pay-as-you-go sessions or relying on private health rebates.

Is couples counselling covered by Medicare in Australia?

No. Couples counselling is not covered by Medicare in Australia. Medicare focuses on individual mental health treatment and does not fund relationship or couples counselling. This allows couples counselling to remain specialised, ethical, and outcome-focused without session caps or administrative restrictions.

Can private health insurance provide a rebate for couples counselling?

Some private health funds may offer limited rebates for counselling services. Rebates vary depending on the provider and level of cover, and clients must check directly with their own health fund. For example, some Medibank policies may offer a rebate. In most cases, the discounted packages offered by The Edge Counselling provide better overall value than private health rebates.

Do you offer online and in-person couples counselling in Perth Australia?

Yes. Couples counselling is available in person in Perth and online via Zoom across Australia. Online sessions are particularly suitable for FIFO couples, busy professionals, and couples located regionally or interstate.

Do you work with FIFO couples and high-pressure relationships?

Yes. Catherine has extensive experience supporting FIFO couples and families, including challenges related to distance, reconnection cycles, trust, parenting strain, emotional fatigue, and role overload. Sessions are structured to work effectively within FIFO schedules.
