'The Grass Isnt Greener, It's Usually Astro-Turf! by Catherine Christie

Excited to Announce My New Book Launching on Amazon Kindle Next Month! A Practical Guide with Couples Exercises and Real-Life Cases (Names Changed) and So Much More!

I’m excited to announce the upcoming release of my new book, Inspired by my journey past 10 years and passion for Relationship Education Offering Practical Tools for Happy Couples and a Happier Society. As a couples counsellor, psychotherpist and relationship coach based in Perth, Subiaco, this project has been a labor of love, born out of my years of experience helping couples navigate the challenges of relationships and create healthier, happier connections. Whether you’re looking to rebuild trust, improve intimacy, or simply strengthen your bond, this book is filled with practical exercises, real-life examples, and evidence-based tools designed to make a lasting difference.

Why I Wrote This Book

Over the past 7 years as the Founder and Senior Clinician of The Edge Counselling, I have worked with couples at various stages of their relationships. Some come in struggling with intimacy, others with trust, and many with communication breakdowns. What I’ve found through my practice, and through using world-renowned approaches like the Prepare/Enrich modality and Gottman techniques, is that most couples don’t need a complete overhaul. They need guidance—practical tools to help them reconnect, understand each other, and grow together.

That’s where my book comes in. I’ve distilled years of knowledge into a resource that doesn’t just talk about relationships but gives you tangible ways to improve them. From the first chapter to the last, my goal is to empower couples with tools they can use to enhance their relationships in real time.

What You’ll Find in the Book

"Relationship Education Will Save the World" covers key aspects of building and maintaining healthy relationships. Each chapter provides a unique focus, packed with exercises, research-based insights, and real-life cases (with names changed, of course) that illustrate how these tools have helped others.

Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect:

  • Sex vs. Intimacy: In this chapter, we explore the common misunderstanding between sex and intimacy. Couples often mistake physical touch for sexual advances, leading to frustration and distance. This chapter will help you differentiate between the two and give you practical ways to cultivate intimacy without pressure.

  • Building Trust and Security: Trust is the foundation of any healthy relationship, and rebuilding it after it’s been broken is no easy task. In this chapter, I guide couples through step-by-step exercises on how to regain trust, using examples from couples I’ve worked with, like Rachel and Peter, who successfully rebuilt trust after infidelity. Real-life stories will show you how heartfelt apologies and consistent actions make all the difference.

  • Navigating Life Transitions Together: Life changes—like parenthood, retirement, or relocation—can put strain on even the strongest relationships. Here, I share stories of couples like Sarah and Mark, who navigated the challenges of moving to a new city while keeping their connection strong. You’ll find strategies on how to tackle major life transitions together, as a team.

  • Maintaining the Connection Long-Term: Every couple needs to invest in their relationship continuously. This chapter offers practical ways to maintain connection through daily actions, communication techniques, and mutual support. You’ll learn how small gestures can make a big difference, and why relationship maintenance is just as important as any other area of life.

The Role of the Relationship Health Test

One of the key tools I’ve incorporated into my practice is the Relationship Health Test, and I’ve included details about it in the book. This test is an invaluable resource for couples, providing a comprehensive 10-page report on your relationship dynamics. Both partners complete a 30-minute questionnaire, and within 48 hours, you’ll receive the report directly to your inbox, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.

As the facilitator, I also receive a 25-page detailed report, which I use to tailor therapy sessions to your specific needs. This in-depth analysis forms the backbone of our work together, giving us a clear roadmap for building a healthier, more connected relationship. In the book, I guide you on how to interpret the results of the Relationship Health Test and use it as a starting point for deeper conversations with your partner.

A Range of Tools for Every Couple

In addition to the Relationship Health Test, the book offers guidance on which of my counselling packages might suit your needs best. For couples dealing with ongoing conflict, I suggest the 4-Session Pack, designed to address key issues like communication and conflict resolution. For couples who are de-vitalized, or those needing to rebuild after an affair, the 8-Session Pack provides a more in-depth exploration of trust, intimacy, and long-term connection.

And for those who are looking for flexibility, my Pay-As-You-Go option allows couples to book sessions as needed. This option includes the Relationship Health Test as a prerequisite, ensuring that we start our work together with a clear understanding of your relationship’s current state.

Personal Stories and Real Results

What makes this book unique is the inclusion of real-life cases (with names changed) that highlight how the tools and exercises I offer have helped other couples. You’ll read about Bill and Sue, a couple who, after 20 years together, had lost their way when it came to intimacy. They both wanted more connection, but they kept misreading each other’s affectionate gestures as sexual advances, creating frustration and distance. Through exercises included in the book, Bill and Sue were able to rebuild their emotional and physical connection in a way that honored both of their needs.

Stories like these provide real-world examples of how the methods in this book work and give you hope that you, too, can create the relationship you’ve always wanted.

A Resource for a Happier Future

This book isn’t just about quick fixes; it’s about relationship education that can transform your connection for the long term. The tools and exercises in these pages aren’t just for today—they’re designed to create lasting change that will benefit you, your family, and even future generations. Relationship education is an investment in your happiness, and it’s one that will ripple through every area of your life.

I’m thrilled to share this resource with you, and I hope it becomes a guide for you and your partner as you work towards a healthier, more fulfilling relationship.
