Mother and Daughter Bond: Healing Therapy Support for a Happier Life Journey

Updated: May 24

Mother and Daughter. Relationship Healing. Mend Your Bond in 90 minutes at The Edge Counselling

As a passionate advocate, couples counsellor and relationship coach based in Perth, Subiaco, for all kinds of relationship education, I’ve seen first-hand how incredibly intricate and sometimes challenging the bond between mothers and daughters can be.

It’s a relationship that evolves constantly, from the time we’re little girls looking up to our mums to the teenage years where we begin that often tumultuous process of separation—discovering who we are and how we are not our mothers. And then, by the time we reach our mid-twenties (if we’re lucky), many daughters with a healthy dose of emotional intelligence can start to see their mums for who they really are—human, imperfect, and deserving of love, even if the past wasn’t flawless.

But let's face it, things aren’t always that simple. Relationships, especially the one between a mother and daughter, can become tangled over time, and sometimes we’re left with a rift—one that’s hard to mend, and often buried under layers of unspoken feelings and unresolved conflict. The teenage years are tough for both parties, and by the time we get to adulthood, some of those emotional wounds can remain, festering quietly until they eventually cause deeper issues in the family.

This is where healing comes in, and I’ve created a special service for mothers and daughters to do just that. I offer a 90-minute Mother-Daughter Healing Session, where you can come together and sit on my couch—whether you’ve had a few years of distance or decades of silence. The session is designed to help break through the barriers that may be keeping you stuck, give you valuable tools for improving communication, and guide you towards healing old wounds, no matter how big or small they may seem.

Let me be clear: I know how complicated it can feel to walk into a session like this. It can be intimidating to face a big rift that has lasted for years, or maybe you feel that time has passed, and it’s too late to change things. But trust me, it’s never too late. Healing is possible, and it’s never about being perfect. It’s about reconnecting and treating each other with decency, respect, and understanding. A healthy mother-daughter relationship can be the foundation of your family’s wellbeing, but it also has the potential to be one of your most fulfilling friendships.

Sadly, I’ve seen so many women who have left their relationships in limbo for far too long. Whether out of fear, anger, or simply not knowing where to start, they leave the fracture between them unresolved until something tragic happens—often a mother passes away before the relationship has a chance to heal. The grief and guilt that follows can be unbearable, and unfortunately, that hurt trickles down to grandchildren and the wider family. The missed opportunities for deeper connection can leave lasting scars.

That’s why I’m so passionate about offering this service. No matter how big or extended the impasse between you and your mum, healing is absolutely possible. You just need the right support, the right tools, and a safe space to explore your feelings and rebuild that bond.

So, if you're ready to break through the silence and finally heal that relationship, let's sit down together and work through it. You’ll leave the session not only with a stronger bond but also with practical tools for managing difficult conversations and creating a deeper, more supportive connection going forward. And trust me, it will feel like the best decision you’ve ever made.
